Vocabulary of Poverty

A marker of poverty or perhaps also one of its causative factors is the paucity in terms of the number of words in circulation in a community. The poverty of vocabulary goes together with material poverty and also moral impoverishment.

Some may ask people to memorise more word meanings hoping this would help them individually as well as collectively in the light of the above passage.

What anyway explains the richness of words used in a community. It depends on whether the community is unconstrained and action-oriented or restrained and resigned to fate.
