काश!

काश, सिद्धांतकार होता
सारी दुनिया को विचारों की पोटली में समेट कर
हवाओं पर सवार रहता
नहीं तो, कवि ही होता
रच शब्दों का चमत्कारी विन्यास
मुक्त स्वयं को कर लेता
कोई नहीं, लेकिन ऊपरवाला
ऊपर तो खाली रखता
दिल भरा, भारी तो नहीं रहता

बाल सौंदर्यबोध

चित्रकथाओं और पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में,

पुस्तकों के मुखपृष्ठों पर,  
कैलंडरों, पोस्टरों, और पैकेजों पर,
खासकर पटाखों और बीड़ी के बंडलों पर,
औजार बक्सों पर,
और सबसे सुंदर,
गहरे पेंट से ट्रे पर
छपे चित्रों और दृश्यों को
मैं ध्यान से देखता था
और खो जाता उन चित्रों की दुनिया में। 
बचपन की आँखों के सौंदर्यबोध;
वैसा सहज आनंददायक
इस दुनिया में कुछ भी और नहीं है।

Way to Offset the Wealth-concentrative Tendency of Capitalism

Wealth concentration is a natural property of any active economic system. Capitalism is no different but offers a very effective way of offsetting the concentration of wealth. This may be community enterprises at the local level and cooperative capitalism on a larger scale. Many cooperatives are already doing very well in India. It needs to be extended to other complex entrepreneurial ventures.

Village residents can pool resources to establish a cooperative enterprise to run agro-product storage houses and provision stores in nearby cities. The irony is that MNCs and giant corporations sell cut vegetables, ground spices, and wheat flour.

A colony can run its cooperative provision store, restaurant, and health centre. Any community can reclaim many productive activities, which have gone to corporations. I remember cobbler used to measure our feet to supply customised footwear when I was a kid.

Communities can be the best and most reliable producers and suppliers of capital, commodities and services.

Ideologies: Avoidable and Inevitable

The fact remains that ideology is unavoidable. Organisations need one, which works as the keel joining their principles and practices.

Wise people detest ideologies as they can see the play of ideologies fostering tyrannies and curbing individual freedoms.

Ideologies can be classified as operationalising and reformative on one side and disruptive and reconstructive on the other.

The former is inevitable to the extent required for any organised effort and highly desirable if it works for piecemeal reforms.

It is the latter, which generates a general disdain among careful observers and is avoidable.

UBI Again

UBI is again in the limelight following an ILO report. Unemployment is getting severe now. Trouble is no longer jobless growth but job-loss growth; growth that causes job losses because of automation and AI. Another related problem is that of poverty. The rich are getting richer on one side taking advantage of new technologies and the poor are becoming poorer.
UBI, i.e., the Universal Basic Income is seen as the solution to these crises; scholars in greater numbers now agree. And, there should be no doubt that it is now unavoidable. The late-starter nations would be laggards as a well-thought-out model of the same promises many advantages for a country.
There are two ways of providing UBI. The socialists prefer free or subsidised services and goodies to people, and the capitalist method is direct cash transfers.
The efficacy and effects of the latter are yet to be tested on a large scale but the former is a proven failure. It brings in only inefficiency and scarcity. The latter is the only way left but much would depend on how a county formulate and fine-tune the arrangement.

हिंदी का प्रचार-प्रसार

यह आवश्यकता नितांत है कि हिंदी विश्व भाषा बने। तोष का विषय है कि हिंदी अनेक देशों में समझी और बोली जाती है लेकिन प्रयास इसे अँग्रेजी से ऊपर ले जाकर विश्व की प्रथम भाषा के रूप में स्थापित करने के लिए होना चाहिए। लक्ष्य ऊँचा होना ही चाहिए क्योंकि भारत जैसी प्राचीन सभ्यता और विशाल देश के लिए लक्ष्यों की निम्नता का कोई औचित्य नहीं है।

 
इसके लिए व्यवस्थित प्रयास और निवेश की आवश्यकता है। हिंदी भाषी क्षेत्र के नागरिक समाज संगठनों, विश्वविद्यालयों और सरकारों को इस उद्देश्य की पूर्ति के लिए योजना बनाकर काम करना होगा।

 
इस योजना का यह एक आवश्यक भाग होगा कि हिंदी भाषी क्षेत्र के शिक्षण संस्थानों में भारत की अन्य भाषाओं में अध्ययन, अध्यापन, और शोध किए जाने की सुविधा हो।

 
दूसरा कि राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर विश्व की सभी भाषाओं के अध्ययन और शोध हेतु संस्थानात्मक उपक्रम और अधिक संख्या में स्थापित किए जाएँ।

Speaking with Books

While reading a book, in the apparent act of doing so, do you notice that the book is also studying you and speaking to you? If not, you are not reading a book or not doing the reading at all.

If your conversation with books becomes part of your conversations with people, it justifies the pains undertaken by authors for writing the speaking books.

Humanism: a Neglected Chapter

It is the failure of philosophy to get stuck to existential incomprehensibility and not to realise its very nature of being so, i.e., it is incomprehensible. It is antihuman to fog human consciousness by invoking an imagined comprehensible wholesome narrative of existence. It only disorients human consciousness towards what is understandable and actionable. Humanism is still a neglected chapter in the book of humanity to its detriment.

Deglobalization

The secular gifts of capitalism accruing during the last quarter of the twentieth century are completely discarded in the first quarter of the twenty-first century. The promise of human redemption to a fuller self is now nowhere to be seen.

What explains the reversal? It is the faculty's betrayal of agency. The entrenched interests ruling the roost internationally or aspiring ones conspired to thwart globalisation. The very pioneers of globalism backtracked seeing the rise of the others. Here, human epistemology could have enabled people to hold the gains and strive for more but it worked in the opposite direction due to its weaknesses. The likely beneficiaries were intellectually too impoverished to see the changes in circumstances in their favour. They rather only blamed these positive changes for their failures. The domestic elites were also hostile to the trend seeing its democratization potential.

स्वामित्व से सेवाभाव की ओर

जनतंत्र का अर्थ जनस्वामित्व है। जनतंत्र में राजा पद का विलोप हो जाता है जो स्वामी हुआ करता था। जनतंत्र में जन ही स्वामी होते हैं और नागरिक कहे जाते हैं। प्रजा से नागरिक बनने का अर्थ अपने अधिकारों और दायित्यों का ज्ञान और उनका क्रमशः उपयोग और निर्वहन है।

अधिकार और दायित्व एक समग्र के ही आयाम  हैं। प्रत्येक का अधिकार दूसरे का दायित्व है। यही नागरिक बोध प्रत्येक के लिए सहज और सफल जीवन सुनिश्चित कर सकता है।

जब जन जनतांत्रिक व्यवस्था में परिपक्व होंगे तो स्वामित्व भाव स्वयमेव तिरोहित हो जाएगा और बचेगा मात्र सेवाभाव। यह स्तिथि जनतंत्र के विकास का अगला चरण है और आज की चेतना के अनुसार जनतंत्र की यात्रा का गंतव्य भी। इस दिशा में यात्रा जन प्रज्ञता पर निर्भर करेगी।

उपलब्धि

मेरी समझ से शिक्षकों की उल्लेखनीय उपलब्धि यह नहीं है कि उन्हें शिक्षार्थियों और अन्य से सम्मान मिला। उनकी उपलब्धि यह होगी कि उन्होंने अपने आचरण और वचनों से लोगों को मानवता, प्रत्येक मानव, जीवमात्र और अजीवों के प्रति भी सम्मान रखना सीखाया। सबसे ऊपर, उनका प्रधान कर्तव्य है कि जो भी उनके सम्मुख आये, उनमें वे आत्म-सम्मान की भावना का संचार कर सकें। उनके मानस में जीवन की महत्ता को उद्घाटित करें। यह विषय थोड़ा क्लिष्ट है। कई लोग अपने दंभ को आत्म-सम्मान के रूप में घोषित करते रहते हैं। दूसरी तरफ, ज्ञानियों के रूप में विख्यात भी जीवन की अवमानना को ज्ञान के रूप में संभाषित करते हैं। शिक्षक की सफलता यह है कि उन्होंने शिक्षार्थियों को अपने सर में मस्तिष्क की उपस्थिति और उसकी उपयोगिता से अवगत कराया है।
