The secular gifts of capitalism accruing during the last quarter of the twentieth century are completely discarded in the first quarter of the twenty-first century. The promise of human redemption to a fuller self is now nowhere to be seen.
What explains the reversal? It is the faculty's betrayal of agency. The entrenched interests ruling the roost internationally or aspiring ones conspired to thwart globalisation. The very pioneers of globalism backtracked seeing the rise of the others. Here, human epistemology could have enabled people to hold the gains and strive for more but it worked in the opposite direction due to its weaknesses. The likely beneficiaries were intellectually too impoverished to see the changes in circumstances in their favour. They rather only blamed these positive changes for their failures. The domestic elites were also hostile to the trend seeing its democratization potential.
